While growing your own food promotes healthy practices of food consumption in your home, limiting ourself to these solitary actions are not necessary when aiming for a sustainable lifestyle. These issues are nothing new, there are many people and place doing the same. Interaction within your local community will strengthen it, generating societal benefits in multiple areas.

Today I am going to focus on my local community here in West Philadelphia, both similarities can be found across the country as well as the world.

Where to eat out in West Philly:

White Dog Cafe

White Dog was actually the first place I ever ate in Philadelphia. I stopped in years ago for brunch contemplating whether I should move to this city or not. While Drexel University gave me a fair share of a scholarship, it was not the sole reason for my decisions. (Mech Engineering if you were wondering)

Any how, White Dog fits wonderfully in our discussion on local eating. Slow Food USA writes, White Dog is “THE Slow Food place - everything is sourced locally, great farm supporters, a real Philadelphia (and University of P) institution with Andy Brown is heading the kitchen and Judy Wick’s various endeavors to empower neighborhood businesses and area farmers.”

Along side the food sources the cafe was the first, and that still may be the only, for-profit business in PA to use only 100% Wind Generated Electricity.
